Safer, more efficient and sustainable sailing
This page provides information for Sperry Marine’s VisionMaster FT, ECDIS-E and VisionMaster Net ECDIS and allows mariners to check that their ECDIS meets the applicable IHO standards.
IMO’s “ECDIS – Guidance for Good Practice” published in MSC.1/Circ.1503 states that, for a ship to use ECDIS to meet the chart carriage requirements of SOLAS, the ECDIS must be maintained to be compliant with the applicable International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards. A list of current IHO Standards in force is maintained on the IHO website at this page https://iho.int/en/standards-in-force which states that:
“The up-to-datedness of the ECDIS in regard to the installation of the latest Edition of the Standards is represented by the first 2 digits of the Edition number. The 3rd digit of the Edition number (in brackets) indicates a clarification version of the Standard; clarifications have no impact on safety of navigation or ECDIS performance.”
The “standards in force” IHO web page also links to a document with “Information on IHO Standards Related to ENC and ECDIS” which is intended to be used by stakeholders such as mariners and Port State Control inspectors for the purpose of establishing compliance. This information document references only the first two digits of the IHO standards. Accordingly, on the listings below, only the first two digits of IHO standards are provided - the third digit does not contribute to the determination of whether the ECDIS is up to date.
